Voters Will Have The Chance to Decide On Scottsdale. 2005-12-20
Voters in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community need to make a decision. They will need to decide today whether or not to allow a 15-story hotel casino to be created. The casino is meant to be placed on east of its border with Scottsdale.
Around 4,800 of the tribe's more than 8,000 members can vote. They are all eligible to vote, which would lift the community's building height restrictions. This would allow them to put taller space on the Salt River side of Loop 101.
If this passes, the landscape would be greatly changed. It could even possibly threaten Scottsdales hospitality industry. Arizona is not ready for a Las Vegas-style casino resort to be built. Some voters agree some are against the whole idea. Only time will tell if the majority tries to change the landscape of the city.
