It has been reported that residents of Massachusetts have been purchasing lottery tickets in record numbers.
The report has surprised speculators who believed that due to rising gasoline prices and a stagnant economy, many people would be saving their money for other things instead of gambling. It seems that the favoured mentality is to buy a chance at making money.
All industries for example the travel industry and entertainment industry are feeling the pinch that rising gas prices is creating but players believe that the potential payout of the MegaMillions lottery is worth a dollar gamble if the jackpot is $10 million.
It appears that this year's lottery sales will beat last year's sales of $4.4 billion. The Massachusetts lottery pays out 71.6% of its profits in winnings which translates to $3.2 billion in prizes last year alone.
