Issue Tough For Texas Casinos. 2005-11-30
Texas may have big everything, but they dont yet have it big when it comes to casino gambling. Carrollton City Council member, Ron Branson said if the state is even ready for this all, he wants to be in on it. He claimed that the city has to be prepared to seize this opportunity if it should ever come along.
He, with the support of other council members, are looking to change this current position to something new. He has asked city staff to look into the possibility of bringing in a casino on a 262-acre tract of undeveloped city land. It sounds reasonable, but harder than one thinks, because of the states position of casino gambling.
The site is attractive because it has highway access, but has too many development challenges. City Manager Leonard Martin claimed this would be hard to get off of the ground. However, Branson still thinks that this type of development could help the city receive additional development. Just to get this going, he would even consider another empty site.
