Biloxi City Council Speeds up Paper Shuffling for Casino Opening 2006-05-25
Biloxi City Council has expedited the opening of Treasure Bay Casino on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Casino was due to go before the Mississippi Gaming commission in July but with some bureaucratic red tape removal this could be speeded up to the next few weeks which means the casino could open in June.
Treasure Bay would open with the smallest gambling operation of 100 slot machines and no gaming tables but would expand later in the year to 550 slot machines and 22 gaming tables.
There were 12 casinos on Mississippi's Gulf Coast before hurricane Katrina hit, and three have since reopened. Five more are due to open before the end of the year.
The casino hotel will house 250 rooms and employ a staff of 200 initially. The casino is hoping to expand in the future with the acquisition of land.
