Casino Checking Out Their Chances. 2005-10-30
The proposed Shasta Mountain Casino, as part of the Economic Development Plan of the Alturas Indian Rancheria will now become a reality. The owners own a 160-acre Trust Allotment and other property east of Fairlane Road as well as south of the Yreka city limits. They are very happy for this addition to their monopoly.
The Environmental Assessment (E.A.) and traffic report for the project are being released today. This will also mean that several copies being filed with the State of California Clearing House. A full copy of both reports will be available for the general public at the county library in Yreka.
Construction will not commence until negotiations are finalized. An access road to the tribal allotment has been constructed and some preliminary site work is being done. Some time through this period there will be a public meeting at the Yreka Community Theater to hear oral comments. Afterwards any concerns will be addressed by the Alturas Rancheria Tribal Business Committee.
Tribal Chairman Phillip Del Rosa expressed their hopes for a good relationship with officials. They know, through research, that residents are interested in this development. They say it is a win- win situation for the area, and their economy.
