Atlantic City Casino Robber Sentenced 2006-05-22
An Atlantic City man who robbed the cashiers office of the Trump Taj Mahal Casino has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.
Tyrone Daniels of North Connecticut Avenue was on probation after being released from jail for a previous armed robbery.
The sentencing judge recommended that Daniels must serve 85% of the sentence (17 years) before being eligible for parole.
Taj Mahal employee Margaret Robertson acted as an accomplice to Daniels, supplying him with a pass to enter and told him when the deposit bags would be ready.
Using security tapes the police followed the trail back to Robertson. She cooperated with the police, and after giving her testimony and guilty plea of conspiring to commit armed robbery, she was given a lesser sentence of 3 years, with a recommendation of serving 2 years.
Police found bank notes totalling $39,400 in the home of Daniels with the date and initials of the cashiers who had prepared the money.
It took 3 hours for the jury to find Mr Daniels guilty.
