New Location Found By Gambling Board. 2005-10-20
The Illinois Gaming Board decided to take on Jumer's Casino Rock Island. The city is taking on the project to move the casino to the city's southwest side. This was decided on after there was a 5-0 vote on the issue.
The over whelming vote was met with enthusiasm when Rock Island City Council chambers approved the casino's request to move. The approval came after months of waiting for gaming board members to be appointed. The appointments by Gov. Rod Blagojevich were meant to clear up a legal dispute made by Illinois Attorney General's Office.
The casino first wanted to move to the Mississippi River area around six years ago. It now wants to build close to home with a $90 million casino and hotel complex at the site. Of course the project will be made in two phases.
Casino Rock Island President Ron Wicks said that the board still has to approve architectural designs and the costs. The board also wanted updates on the casino's relationship with its neighbors. This will all show if it all is a great success or not.
