Problem Gambling Lowering In Numbers. 2005-10-10
The Department of Internal Affairs has now introduced tighter laws around gambling. Graham Aitkin, National Operations Manager of the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand (PGF) says kudos to them. The Gambling Act is meant to promote responsible gambling.
The new statistics have helped make this all possible, and it is all looking up. So far, the numbers of gambling machines, venues and operators have decreased. However the downside is that 90% of problem gamblers say pokies are why they have the problem to begin with.
The new regulation brings in pop-up messages. The hope is that this will further help to stop problem gambling. The Act seems to be working, and anything they do further only increases their chances to fight problem gambling and promote responsible gambling.
