Casinos May Be Built In Wisconsin. 2005-10-06
A bill was passed by the State Assembly last week allowing Wisconsin Tribes to receive approval for building off reservation casinos. Of course this will be all up to the legislation if it will successfully go through. The governor and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs must show how this will be beneficial, in order to receive the approval. If they are not able then the state will have to admit that this could harm the community.
A replica of the bill must be passed by the state senate and either be signed into the law, or vetoed. The veto can be made by Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle. Assembly Democrats have argued against this bill to the Senate.
The Wisconsin tribes have shown interest in building here. During 2003 and 2004, Doyle banned attempts by lawmakers to get involved. Doyle says that negotiations between the 11 tribes, and 132 lawmakers would just create trouble.
