Court Case Tried Second Time. 2005-09-04
Susan Bala, former owner of a Fargo, North Dakota wagering company may be back in court. She owned a wagering company for Racing Services Inc. She has now filed a motion for a new trial. This came about seven months after she was convicted of 12 felony charges related to illegal gambling.
Bala was scheduled to begin serving a 27month sentence August 31, but United States District Judge Ralph Erickson extended the date to September 30. This was all in order to give prosecutors time to bring up a case, if and when it would go back to trial. Bala wants to go back to trial because she discovered documents to prove her case.
United States Attorney Drew Wrigleys office opposed the delay. They believe that there isnt any new evidence. Due to this there shouldnt be a new trial, nor delay in the sentence being enacted.
