Katrina Arrives At the Hotel Casinos, So They Make Room. 2005-08-28
Hurricane Katrina is the whole talk of the news nowadays. As she is approaching, people are worried about their businesses. After heavy some talks, the coast casinos will be closed by 2:00am today. Casino hotels will be emptying out their halls in stages from this morning, by noon. By then all casinos will need to close their doors to all employees as well.
Larry Gregory, Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission spent most of Saturday figuring out when they would handle such a situation. After much consideration, along with the weather reports of the approaching hurricane, it was decided the sooner the better. It was then decided that the casinos would be closed this morning.
Guests at the coast casinos were not pushed out, they were given enough time to make other plans. According to Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway, Sunday morning was the best time to leave the area. It would be good, since guests would not have to drive at night, on strange roads.
