Tribal Casino Projects High. 2005-08-23
The net revenue from casinos may reach 15% over what Chickasaw Nation officials projected. The projection came from the tribe, who believe that the projection would clear in the next fiscal year. The expectation is to earn $170 million.
The tribe expects to earn this sum according to a budget approved. The approval came Friday by tribal legislators. If the projection happens, the tribe will triple net earnings they had in fiscal 2003.
Tribal officials voted to increase funding several programs. Some of these programs include education. Education received nearly $5.1 million or a $4.7 million increase from the year before.
Three of thirteen legislators voted against the budget. The overall budget states that more money should have been put aside. The reason for the money to be put aside would be for college grants.
The tribe currently runs 11 casinos in its 13 counties of the southern areas of Oklahoma. These range from small trailers with hundreds of electronic machines in the nearly 200,000-square-foot WinStar Casino. The casino is found near the Texas border of the state on Interstate 35.
