Birmingham Super Casino On Hold. 2005-07-27
It seems that the man in charge of Birmingham's leisure portfolio has announced his opposition to add a new super-casino for the city. However he has some opposition. Plans do not seemed to be backed anytime soon.
Councilor John Alden said he would not back plans for any mega-gambling complex. This all came about around the time of the announcement for the change. It seems that there will be additional meetings for city builders to reach a conclusion.
Cabinet, however, is planning to back such a venture. They said they will back a super-casino, but again they need addition meetings before they can announce any positions. Council meetings should be underway first.
It could have allowed Birmingham to immediately join the race against other cities trying to obtain new licenses. This is expected to be available under the Government's relaxation of the gaming laws. However, other things surrounding this issue are not clear.
