Excess of Jobs, but Few People in Atlantic City. 2005-07-25
Atlantic City Casinos are now suffering from an employee shortage at their casinos. At least that is the expectation, and it is worrisome. The reason why there might be a shortage is because of the $500M expansion of the Borgata Hotel-Casino-Spa. The competition of the casino will be completed sometime this next year. Due to the expansion, there many not be enough workers to hire for the casino.
It seems that in Atlantic City there is more jobs, that there is people to fill them. Waiters and waitresses, dancers, bar maids are just some of the people that could be needed in the expansion, as well as workers in nightclubs and restaurants on the premises. It is the first time in history that there are more jobs, than people to fill them. That is the fear for the expansion, an expansion doomed to fail if there arenít any workers to fill the space.
As it seems, people will be recruited from outside the city. To attract them they will have to offer better benefit packages, and higher salaries. It is a start, but luckily they have until the end of next year, and hopefully it will all work out by then.
