UK Casino Owner and Charity Fundraiser Victim of Fatal Stabbing 2006-02-07
The owner of a string of UK casinos in the Black Country was found stabbed to death in his home in the center of Leeds.
Barry DeLacy, a 65- year old father of two, was found dead at 11pm on Friday. Police have begun an investigation into the murder, and are currently holding an unidentified 27 year- old suspect in custody. The motive for the murder has not yet been identified, although some speculate that it may have been related to DeLacys casino dealings.
DeLacy owned a number of casinos in the region, including Wolverhampton's Rubicon and Dudley's Castle Hill Casino. He was also at the forefront of the decision to convert a public building in Smethwick into a casino shaped like a ship. DeLacy began his casino career years ago in Wolverhampton, where he turned the Lafeyette entertainment venue into a casino.
In addition to being a casino owner, DeLacy frequently served as a fund- raiser for charities, including Cancer Support. He was a popular public figure, whom many described as larger than life.
DeLacys friends and relatives gathered in his Tividale home to express their condolences today.
