Big Boat A Rising. 2005-06-12
Michigan City, Indiana has a brand new bag, or for that matter boat. Sometime in the making, Indiana has worked for a casino boat, and now they have it. Blue Chip Casino has just been certified by the U.S Coast Guard. It will not only be a great river boat casino, but it is a huge liner.
This boat now weighs more that 6,000 tons. Once certified it would be ready to set sail. Earlier last week, it was lifted from a man-made channel beside Trail Creek, to do just that.
The last touches this week are under way to bring the boat to full set sail. The steel is still under construction, at this point its 402 ft. X 208 ft. and 3,000 gallons of water are being pumped into the basin per minute. Bob Marra, director of the project for Boyd Gamming, claimed to be hopeful that this week all would be completed. Boyd Gamming is part a firm that owns the riverboat.
By this rate, at the end of the year there should be and additional 4,000 tons added, and four complete levels. This is twice the sq.footage of the original boat that opened in 1997. It will make it even larger that even expected.
The third floor with be the Vegas style casino, built up with slots, and tables. This boat will be a larger arrangement than on the previous version. The bottom levels are set up for the navigation, and maintenance of the boat, and the forth floor is up for question.
By the end of this year it will be fully completed, and up for actually sail. In the meantime it has been approved for remodeling, and confirmed by the Coast Guard. The Blue Chip at completion will be the largest of its kind, and sailing around Indiana.
