People arrested in connection with illegal casinos

A new anti-crime organization in Potchefstroom led to an arrest of several people for their involvement with casinos in the North West province.
After months of investigations on the relationshipsbetween the managers and the workers led to collecting evidences, little by little and eventually resulted in an arrest of 70 people.
Rustenburg and Brits, those who were arrested are charged with an operation of casinos which are illegal and which are not licensed.
The investigation has been led by Lesetja Ephraim Beetha and her 180 assistants who took part in the operation which concluded in the forced entry to the twenty casinos last week.
Besides from the arrest of the people involved, machines were also confiscated and taken out of the casinos which were located in office buildings in the city.
The estimated amount taken away is approximately R97.051.
Beetha said that while main concern crimes were the main focus during police operations, non-violent crimes needed to be addressed to "restore compliance to the law at all levels of disobediences".
"The operation had to be completed and we are delighted that we ended up with results after the long term of the investigation we have invested in- both mentally and physically�".
