Building of Detroit Casino Delayed 2006-06-04
Red Tape has prevented building work commencing on the Greektown Casino in Detroit Michigan and could end up costing the casino tens of millions of dollars.
The MGM Grand Detroit and Motorcity have both started work on their permanent Casinos and look set to open late in 2007 or early 2008. Both casinos have begun taking bookings for conventions and events at their new facilities. Greektown Casino still hopes to open by 2008 despite not yet having received approval of the plans from Detroit City Planning Commission, and it looks like approval will not come for at least another few weeks.
Being a slow developer is nothing new for Greektown Casino. When the casino opened its temporary casino in early 2000, MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity's temporary casinos had both been open for more that a year. The two casinos had generated more than $900 million in gambling revenue.
In terms of revenue, Greektown Casino is a distant third after MGM and Motorcity.
