Grandfather Casino Retires and Sells. 2005-09-19
The Westward Ho hotel and casino will close Nov. 17, to be sold. The property which opened in 1965 is located between Circus Circus and Stardust. Now it is time to put the property to sleep for good.
Experts familiar with the transaction said the one most interested in a future buy is Centex Corp., a Dallas-based home building company trying to find a place to start their condominium development project. Centrex executives have not confirmed this. Actually they could not be reached for comment. If they do buy, and built, it is likely that they make the same condominium styles seen on the LV Strip.
The casino has never had problems with people wanting the property, and wont have problems selling. What problem they did have was a company that wanted to buy the property, and ending up suing Westward Ho. The suit is still pending by a residential developer based in Texas.
A Clark County District Court judge received a motion last month to dismiss the case, but that has not been signed yet. Texas developer, Tracy Suttles, failed in a previous attempt to buy the property, filed a suit based on breach of contract. Westward Ho argued that the developer claimed to want to buy, but didnt have the money to back it all up.
